Description

Soft, baked vanilla cake donuts with rich vanilla bean flavor and a silky glaze. Topped with colorful sprinkles for a nostalgic treat the whole family will love.


Ingredients

2 cups all-purpose flour

1½ cups sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

1 teaspoon salt

1 large egg (lightly beaten)

1¼ cups whole milk

2 tablespoons butter (melted)

2 teaspoons vanilla bean paste

For the icing:

2 cups powdered sugar

2 tablespoons melted butter

1 teaspoon vanilla

2 to 4 tablespoons milk

sprinkles (optional)


Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a donut pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine egg, milk, melted butter, and vanilla bean paste.
  4. Pour wet mixture into dry ingredients and stir gently until just combined.
  5. Pipe or spoon batter into donut pan, filling each cavity about three quarters full.
  6. Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  7. Let donuts cool in pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool fully.
  8. To make glaze, whisk powdered sugar, melted butter, vanilla, and milk until smooth.
  9. Dip cooled donuts into glaze and decorate with sprinkles before glaze sets.
  10. Let rest until glaze firms up, then serve fresh.

Notes

For a thicker glaze, chill the donuts for 10 minutes and dip them a second time. Store unglazed donuts in an airtight container and frost just before serving for best texture.
